Collaborative Agreements

GNCT Chair of Nurse Education, University of Surrey
During the period 1990 to 1993, a time of major change in Nurse Education, the Trust held discussions with the University of Surrey to make a substantial endowment to the institution in order to set up a ‘Chair of Nursing’. In 1993 the discussions were concluded with the signing of the ‘Deed’ establishing the ‘Chair of Nursing’. In 1997, it was agreed that the GNC Trust’s Chair (Nurse Education) be brought together with the Highcombe Trust (Midwifery Education) within the Centre for Research into Nursing and Midwifery Education (CRNME). While the GNC Trust Chair (Nurse Education) became the responsibility of the University of Surrey, the Trustees of the GNC Trust maintained their interest and involvement through the Management Advisory Board. The Trust is proud to be associated with CRNME and the on-going contribution it is making towards continuous improvement of professional standards in terms of research, publications, dissemination of knowledge, evidence based clinical practice and conduct. Foundation of Nursing Studies
In 2006, the GNCT Trustees established a formal collaborative agreement to work in partnership with the Foundation of Nursing Studies (FoNS), to further the objects of both charities related to the advancement of nursing care. We are mutually committed to enabling nurses in practice to develop their basic research skills. This programme supports nurse-led healthcare teams who have identified an aspect of care that needs improving and are committed to working in a systematic way to develop and change practice through research. Applicants and projects must be based in clinical practice in England and Wales and it is anticipated that projects will run over a maximum of two years. Applications are encouraged from nurse-led, inter-professional teams and academic links are recommended. Email the Foundation of Nursing Studies.

Florence Nightingale Foundation
In 2005, the GNCT Trustees approved funding for a travel scholarship in honour of the late Mr. Anthony Smith CBE, former Chief Executive of the defunct English National Board for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting (ENB). This scholarship is offered through the Florence Nightingale Foundation. Email the Floorence Nightingale Foundation.
